“Born of the fjord”—that’s how the locals describe their town, Løgstør. The harbor town’s connection to the Limfjord is unmistakable. Like many other towns, Løgstør has developed a thriving water sports culture along the fjord. In alignment with the focus areas mentioned above, it is Medvind’s objective to create a design proposal where associations and external stakeholders can meet, with water sports as a shared focal point.
The Medvind Project explores a dynamic interplay between indoor and outdoor spaces as well as shared ownership, aiming to promote both functional and social connections. With water sports at its core, the building’s central courtyard is intended to act as a catalyst for new communities across associations and user groups. The architecture seeks to create a physical link to Frederik VII’s Canal, embracing passersby and stakeholders alike. This establishes an edge zone that supports interaction between water sports practitioners and interested citizens. The Water Sports House’s hybrid character enables multifunctional spaces that can be opened or closed as needed.
This ambition is pursued while maintaining strict control over the environmental impact of design choices, ensuring that the building’s carbon footprint remains relatively low. These decisions are made with respect for broader sustainability concerns, seeking to strike a sensible balance in the final design of the building.
