This project outlines a design proposal for a maritime activity center on the waterfront of the rural town Løgstør, Denmark. The proposal brings six different communities together, which all center around activities on, in and at the water of Limfjorden and the historical canal Frederik VII’s Kanal.
The project aims to investigate how different associations can collaborate to meet their various needs while optimizing the use of space. Further, there has been an emphasis on enhancing the visibility of the activities between different user groups but also towards the town, thereby strengthening the feeling of community and life along the waterfront.
The presented design, Vandkanten, is a hybrid building that adjusts to the scale and materiality of the surrounding coastal environment. The building masses are placed around an open courtyard, where preparations happen for different outdoor activities, as club members come and go. From the courtyard, the outdoor space extends to the canal, with a proposal for a new slipway and to the back with an outdoor kitchen and a publicly accessible area to work out. The building consists of flexible spaces that connect the indoors and outdoors, for activities to flow seamlessly back and forth. Furthermore, a strategic proposal is made for climate adaptation of the waterfront, combining different flood strategies with recreational spaces and infrastructures.
